The International Maritime Museum is located in one of the two remaining historic warehouses in the HafenCity in Hamburg.

The low ceiling heights of the IMM require a sophisticated combination of light and air-conditioning technology in the smallest possible space. The light is an essential design element of the exhibition rooms. The visitor has the impression of being below deck of an old ship. The restrained lighting of the museum creates an atmospheric ambience that sends the visitor on a voyage of discovery. Light divides the decks and specifically focuses on the exhibits. The lighting is oriented to the respective object and creates the fine balance between aesthetics and economy.
